With a background in horticulture, the transition from gardener to florist about 20 years ago was a relatively straightforward one. It wasn’t until I got married myself that I had given wedding flowers much thought at all. However, being a gardener and a flower addict I knew that the formal style of wedding flower arrangements was not really for me, it was a bit like my gardens, full of flowers and nature and less of the neatly mowed, striped lawn.
My ethos is sustainability, I have adapted over the years to becoming more sustainable in my floristry work, I gave up using floral foam and single-use plastics and use locally sourced flowers and foliage whenever possible. My wedding flowers combine seasonality, colour, structure, and texture.
I love to create floral displays using foraged dog rose and honeysuckle for instance or wedding arches using living hornbeam and hops or large urns overflowing with dahlias and copper beech.
I source most of my foliage from my own property and other places where I have permission to do so. I also grow a small amount of my favorite flowers that are unusual and not commercially available which add a unique touch to bouquets and arrangements. Thankfully there is now a growing network of local flower farmers, I love to buy locally so it’s great that I can supplement my wholesale order with fresh and often unique blooms that enhance the natural theme of my wedding flowers.
