I was lucky enough to do a lovely wedding on Friday at The Gallivant in Camber, a great hotel situated very close to the dunes at Camber and just down the road. The wedding was a very relaxed affair and the bride requested colourful and seasonal flowers. I never met the bride or groom but from our conversations on the phone, quickly realised that the perfect flowers for them would be predominantly dahlias. Sadly living on top of a hill, storm Aileen battered my home grown dahlias sufficiently to prevent me from using them, however I found a local grower orchard farm flowers that supplied a couple of buckets full to top up what I could salvage from the garden. The bridesmaids (two little girls) had a colourful posy each, that were a mix of dahlia dunaj, ammi visnaga, lime zinnia and feverfew, variegated mint and eucalyptus, and the groom and best man had a pink zinnia button hole, to go with their very pale suits. The reception was predominantly mixed colourful dahlias with sprigs of foliage in recycled bottles dotted along the lime washed trestle tables in the marquee adjacent to the hotel, voila a simple but vibrant display to compliment the coastal setting.
